Speedtrap Ride Tuesday September 22nd recap
It was very dark, even though it was at least an hour until sunset. There were very strong ENE winds. There was a constant mist in the air with intermittent light rain. The temperature was a cool 60 degrees. Yet, seven hardy cyclists came to Elmore last night to ride the full course of the Speedtrap Ride.
Six cyclists rode out together. Most agreed that it was not a great ride considering such adverse conditions. However, Ken South from that group said that the ride was a success because each rider helped the others at some point to finish the ride. Those six hardy cyclists are pictured below.
Perhaps even more impressive is that Claude Watkins rode alone. He had no assistance in riding in such adverse conditions. Yet he rode the complete Speedtrap Ride! Perhaps he was the strongest rider….at least last night! Although the photo is not current, Claude is pictured below.
Next Tuesday, September 29th, will be the final official Speedtrap Ride for the 2026 season. It will be vintage bike night, so bring and ride any bike you would like. Have fun with it. It will also be a time for socialization with a potluck party after the ride, so bring some food to share!
The weather for next Tuesday is predicted to be far better than last night: mostly sunny skies, a high temperature of 75 degrees, an ESE wind of only 6 mph, and less than a 10% chance of precipitation.
Sunset next Tuesday will be 7:20 pm, so ride time next Tuesday will be 6:05 pm, or as soon as bike shop employees can close the shop and be ready to ride.
Sign-in will begin at 5:30 in front of the bike shop. I hope to see you then.
