Hello,

Attached is a simple gerber generated by SprintPCB Layout 6.

Flatcam hangs at parsing.

This is the simplest file I have.

Demo of SprintPCB can be downloaded here:

http://www.abacom-online.de/uk/html/sprint-layout.html

Very powerful and inexpensive!

Hi Sam,

I tried your file in version Alpha 3 (Not released yet), and it opened without a problem. I've fixed several bugs in the gerber parser, so I can't tell what specifically was causing it. Please hold on for the release. It should be ready in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, please tell me if this looks like your board or if there is something else wrong:

There was one line that didn't look familiar: %LNCOPPER_BOTTOM*%. I looked it up and it is a comment, but in a deprecated format. Should be ignore by FlatCAM.

Thanks,

JP

Hello JP,

Thanks for looking at this. Please see the attached. This is what the file should look like. This is the view looking through the PCB with SprintLayout V6 the latest version. It seems that your output is missing the pads.

I can also send you another version that has the built in groundplane pour if you would like to test that also.

My regular email address is sam dot reaves at gmail dot com.
You are welcome to copy any correspondence there as I may not check here as often as I should.

A couple of things:

1. Would you please make a PDF or Word or some other directly printable manual available. I tried to print my own but it paginates strangely.

2. I have LinuxCNC running under 10.04 Ubuntu. I am very new to Linux and I wonder if you could put a EXE together that would install and run under this version. I got the installer ISO off of the LinuxCNC.org website. Being a Windoze
user Linux is foreign to me but the draw of free CNC software is great but I struggle with some things.

Thank you very much.

Sam,

I tried it in the released Alpha 3 and it looks exactly like in your picture, except for the holes in the pads. Holes in pads are not supported yet, but I don't think this would matter much as you will probably drill through them anyway.

Cheers,

JP

Thanks for that! Keep in mind though, that the manual is a work in progress, so the latest will always be on the website.

As Sam (W3OHM) needed some help, Marc (F6DNH) was just answering to his request. That's ham spirit...

Hi Sam,
I forgot to take a look at the latest files you sent me, but l will before Alpha 5. Oh, by the way, what CNC machine do you have?
Cheers,
JP

Hi JP,

The machine is a CNC3040 Ball screw driven I got off of Ebay. I have been using SL2M3 to convert plot files from SprintPCB but that is really not adequate for SMT work.

Is there any way you could post a full installer for Linux? I want to use this with my LinuxCNC box that is attached to my machine (only runs Ubuntu 10.04) but it seems that when I try to follow your steps sudo does not find all the files in your list for some reason.

If you would could you run the attached double sided PCB through your program and post the G-Code files?

Thanks much,

Sam

Sam,

Were is the problem ? Reading the G-Code files with LinuxCNC or translating SprintPCB Gerber / Excellion to G-Code?
Up to now, the G-Code files are not fully compliant (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/flatcam/ZZqTTbj2UzQ), % or M02 missing at the end.

I think we have the same CNC : 3040Z-DQ.
I'll be pleased if you could send me the parameters you're using for LinuxCNC as (quite) nothing is available (Mach3 parameters only).

Hi Sam,

I've processed your file, without mirroring, only the top side.
As a result I've 3 files : top, drill, cutout
Drill is not OK.

Results are in the attached zip file

Then I go to the LinuxCNC PC.

All files are not compliant.

Just add M02 and % and then it was possible to open.

cutout and top files "seems" ok ... but I didn't run, just display.
drill is also OK. In other words it appears as after generate (Flatcam) and as defined in the exported gerber file.

Sam,

Several people have requested support for other platforms, including LinuxCNC/Ubuntu 10.04. I don't have the time right now to work on that, but I can help and provide guidelines if people want to engage in that specific project themselves.

In the case of Ubuntu 10.04 it is going to be quite complicated as it is extremely old. None of the libraries are going to be readily available for it. See this older post for some ideas: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/flatcam/sikTa4b_Jec

JP

HI JC

I fully agree. It's certainly difficulty  to make a new application which should be compatible with Ubuntu 10.04.
I've tried to install some other new applications around linuxcnc and the libraries level is always a nightmare.

Don't forget that LinuxCNC is first a live DVD which can installed if required

In my case, it's no more a live CD but a dedicated cnc driver. Anything else is done on on my dual boot desktop, Win7 64 or Debian.
And the Linux CNC is an out of the box install. No Internet connection, no connection.A black box.
Need to process via an USB memory stick. Not a big issue.

Just to say that Flat Cam on recent LINUX (Ubuntu) could be fine, but on UBUNTU 10.04 is probably lost time

Cheers

Marc
