How to Play COD Black Ops 2 Multiplayer with Split Screen on PC
If you are a fan of Call of Duty: Black Ops II and want to enjoy its multiplayer mode with your friends on the same PC, you might be interested in this guide. In this article, we will show you how to use a mod called Nucleus Co-Op to play local, split-screen multiplayer with up to four players on your computer. You will need at least two gamepads, admin access to your PC, and the unmodded Steam version of the game. Follow these steps to set up and play COD Black Ops 2 multiplayer with split screen on PC.
- Download and install Nucleus Co-Op, a program that allows you to play various games in split-screen mode. The password for the download is "nucleus". You may also need to install 7-Zip to extract the files.
- Extract and place the Nucleus Co-Op files in a new folder. You can name it anything, but we recommend "Nucleus Coop". Place this folder in C:/Program Files (x86).
- Make sure Call of Duty: Black Ops II is located on the same hard drive as the "Nucleus Coop" folder. If not, move them to the same drive. Do not put the "Nucleus Coop" folder into your Call of Duty: Black Ops II directory.
- If you are using a PS4 or PS5 controller, you have to use the DS4Windows program to make it compatible with Nucleus Co-Op. Go to the settings tab in DS4Windows, click "Install ViGEmBus Driver", then restart your computer.
- Right-click on the NucleusCoop.exe file, go to properties, go to the compatibility section, check the box marked "Run this program as an administrator". Press OK.
- Run Call of Duty: Black Ops II once and then exit.
- Start NucleusCoop.exe and click on the "Download Game Scripts" button in the bottom left.
- Search for Call of Duty: Black Ops II and find Call of Duty: Black Ops II Multiplayer. Click on it, then click "Download".
- A dialogue will pop up asking you to locate your Call of Duty: Black Ops II executable file. You can find it by right-clicking on the game in your Steam library, going to manage, then clicking on browse local files.
- Set up your controllers by clicking on the small box below the keyboard icon. Drag your controllers into your desired configuration. If you have a multi-monitor setup, you can also set up each screen for split-screen here.
- Hit the right arrow button in the top right, below "Mod version", then the "Play" button.
- You can now play COD Black Ops 2 multiplayer with split screen on PC. There are two ways to start a game:
- The first player starts searching for an online game (it will only find players connected to your local network) after around 7 seconds it will stop searching and start hosting instead, at this point the other players can join by searching the same game mode via the online menu. This mode fully simulates online, automatically populating the empty player slots with bots. You can also rank up/unlock as you would online.
- The first player creates a custom game and then uses the friends menu to send invites to the other players. For invites to work reliably make sure you select Online at the main menu BEFORE the next instance opens.
We hope this guide helped you play COD Black Ops 2 multiplayer with split screen on PC. If you have any questions or issues, you can check out the Nucleus Co-Op FAQ, join their Discord server
