Hello,

the Sensu default mailer handler just send mails after the occurrences limit, based on the check (in our case 3) is reached.
The flapjack handler seems to ignore the occurrences, should it be part of the handler code to respect this value or is it Sensu who misbehaves here?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Chris

Flapjack is based around a delay time, rather than a delay by the number of failures (such as Nagios does). They are two very different ways of dealing with initial alert delay (reducing noise from checks that go critical then recover quickly by themselves). I wouldn’t say either way is wrong as such.

Flapjack doesn’t care how many occurances / successive check failures, happen. It only cares about how long something’s been observed to be continuously down for.

IHTH

Hi Jesse,

thanks for your answer and I agree and understand the different ways of dealing with initial failures.
My question was more focusing on the engineering side of it. Let me rephrase it, when I want the flapjack handler respecting the occurrences (which is not the flapjack philosophy) where I need to change it? In the handler or on the sensu side?
My understanding is that there is an failure event created after the number of occurrences, so i don't understand how the flapjack handler even get the first failure event.

Cheers,
Chris
