Your goal is to sink all the striped or solid balls, and finally the 8 ball. You're assigned stripes or solids based on the first ball sunk (after the opening shot). But watch out, if you sink the 8 ball too early, you lose the game!

I wasn't exaggerating when I said the gameplay is easy. I've played a game with some of my least tech-savvy friends and still been given a run for my money. An intuitive guide assists you when aiming; there is a line that shows the trajectory emanates from your pool stick. It really is that simple. You even get a little line poking out of the ball you're looking to hit, showing its trajectory. You pull back (technically drag down) on your pool stick's power meter to the left to adjust the ferocity of your shot and simply let go when you're ready. You can even tap in the upper right-hand corner on the pool ball with a red dot in the center to adjust the spin.
As someone who's played many a pool tournament and yelled many curse words in frustration, "8 Ball Pool" is truly a simple, and addictive, game. It's a time killer, one that will have you playing real opponents, so make sure you're on Wi-Fi or have a beefy data plan, because you can easily lose track of an hour or two in this game.
Furthermore, Rule 3.6 says that every shot must be called (except for the break) AND says that "The eight ball may be called only after the shot on which the shooter's group has been cleared from the table."
(Side note about a common misconception in pool - If you look at rule 3.6a, if you're shooting at the eight ball you only lose on a scratch if you also pocket the eight ball. In other words, if you scratch but the eight ball doesn't go in, the game continues.)
Technically in my experience in tournament play, if you pocket a ball of yours in before you pocket the 8-ball but on the same shot, it is the same as scratching on the 8-ball shot because technically you aren't supposed to hit any other ball before you hit the 8-ball with the cue ball. In this case, you do not lose because scratching on an 8-ball shot is not an automatic loss. The second player receives a chance to position and pocket any remaining balls. If you pocket the 8-ball and then your last ball, this is also a lost game because you pocketed the 8-ball before all of your balls were pocketed. That defines your loss.

The top down view was kind of an accident. Originally it was 2D and I was posting progress gifs on twitter. When I put the first 3D code in I wanted to make a gif of it jumping from 2D to 3D smoothly.
