All, I wanted to take a moment and welcome everyone to the flang developer mailing list.  Those of you that attended the SC14 LLVM in HPC BOF/Panel may recall our discussion on the lack of a stable Fortran frontend.  We, and many others, believe that a stable (native) Fortran frontend for LLVM is key to further and future adoption in HPC [et.al. scientific/technical computing].  

Hal Finkel and I spoke near the end of the show and agreed that we should jumpstart the effort.  The initial code will be based upon the previous GSOC flang project with several modifications in order to utilize more modern versions of the LLVM core.  Hal and I discussed a number of the inherent technical issues and potential development paths that we should discuss in this forum (or via teleconference).  There is plenty of interesting work to be done.  

There are a number of other administrative items that we should probably discuss via this list.  I'll leave those for a separate mail.  In the mean time, welcome to flang!
