Dear Friend,
The special session to ban drilling off Florida's beaches just began a few minutes ago. But, the Republicans like Senate President Jeff Atwater and House Speaker Larry Cretul are simply playing partisan games rather than providing the leadership and help Floridians need.
Floridians demand action now - yet Senate President Atwater refuses to even do his job and we need your help.
Loranne Ausley, our Democratic nominee for CFO, is demanding that the drilling ban and relief to Floridians affected by the spill be voted on now so that it is on the ballot for Floridians to vote in November. Join her by signing her petition and let your voice be heard.
Why isn't Senator Atwater allowing this vote? Why is he wasting tax dollars on an empty shell of a special session? It should come as no surprise that Atwater is a top recipient of oil industry and other lobbyist money, and he is wasting tax dollars to look out for their interests instead of looking out for us.
There is no question that this session is an embarrassment - and it simply shows how out of touch and corrupt the Republican politicians in Tallahassee have become.
Atwater and his Republicans wouldn't even allow a vote that would provide relief for people who are faced with even more hardship due to the spill.
We can't let Jeff Atwater do the bidding of the oil lobbyists and ignore what Floridians want done. Please stand up with Lorrane and demand that there be a vote now and let your voice be heard.
