Announcing the Directory of Florida Artists, 1997

A note to Florida Artists:

"Do you know of a Florida Artist who paints trees and manatees and signs
his/her work 'DAB'?"

This sort of question, coming by phone or walk-in in 1994, led us to
search for a directory of Florida artists. We found none. An artist
representative in Tallahassee told us about the Division of Cultural
Affairs at the Department of State, and they provided the addresses of
local cultural organizations around the state. Almost everyone we spoke
with, after warning us that this was going to be a huge project, gave us
the names and addresses they had, and wished us good luck.

Many of the artists provided us with brochures containing information
such as where their works may be seen and awards they had received.
Providing such data is beyond the scope of this directory, but we hope
to publish later editions with an expanded format.

The intent of the Directory is that no potential buyer will fail to find
a Florida artist and that no Florida artist will miss a sale because he
or she could not be located. Also, we want to make it easier for
members of the artistic community to communicate among themselves.
