I bought Banana plants from walmart about a six months ago - While the
plants grow fast, the cool temps we had almost killed them. Any suggestion
on where to plant them or how to handle the cold temps.

The plants are potted for now.

The cool temps, once in the ground, should only affect the foliage. I don't
know where you are located. Mine get ratty looking in the winter (yellow
banana trees all over town in the winter) but the roots survive and they
grow new leaves (I'm in Central Fl., btw). Most important thing is they
like a lot of water (which they may not be getting in pots - they may be
very pot bound?) and they are heavy feeders.
