Saving water by playing with your washing machine

Has anyone experimented with running a standard washing machine as though
it were a front-loader/calypso? I mean, for example, setting the water
fill for half load with a full load of clothes, using the full amount of
detergent. I think you'll find it works. The question is what other
combinations of settings also work? Oh, and my mini-washer has five water
levels. How many levels does yours have?

Think of all the water you can save, once all the elderly Democrats in
Florida stop watering their sidewalks and all the elderly Democrats in
California stop abusing the power grid.
