Good-Bye Mr. Spy, the tree we loved so much. We are so very broken
hearted that you were taken from us for
no good reason -- so cruelly -- so much before your time. Our friends who
loved you as we did and who also see
no reason for your uncalled for and unjust execution weep with us also.
You gave us welcome shade in the hot summer sun. You offered us shelter
from the noise of the roadway. You
offered us the best tasting apples we have ever enjoyed. The pies made from
your fruit were the finishing touch for
many a lovely meal with our friends. How much we and all our neighbours
will miss you.
We hope that your “son,” given to us by the man that so lovingly pruned
you, and who was so shocked to hear
of your death, will provide a loving memorial to you.
