Amateurs operating in a local RACES organization must be officially
enrolled in the local civil-preparedness agency having jurisdiction.
RACES operation is conducted by amateurs using their own primary
station licenses, and by existing RACES stations. The FCC no longer
issues new RACES (WC prefix) station call signs. Operator privileges in
RACES are dependent upon, and identical to, those for the class of
license held in the Amateur Radio Service. All of the authorized
frequencies and emissions allocated to the Amateur Radio Service are
also available to RACES on a shared basis. But in the event that the
President invokes his War Emergency Powers, amateurs involved with
RACES might be limited to certain specific frequencies (while all other
amateur operation could be silenced).

"Christian" radio
river...@aol.com (RiverwoodR)

http://www.airwaves.com/archive1/3863.html

My two cents worth:

So-called Christian broadcasting in nothing but a business making a
profit off the Lord and a front for a political agenda. If it were any
more apparent, one would need a SIGN.

I am a Chrisitian but I don't support the hate-filled babbling found on
most of these so-called "voices of God". Besides, most of these
stations freeload on the airwaves by getting the tax-exempt status
(when they make more profit than legitimate comemrcial licencess who
pay their way).

It is sad to see that so many people perpetrate this gross fraud, but I
relax in knowing they will have to answer to a much HIGHER authority
one day (and I don't mean on this earth)!

WPEZ chaning their city of license to Hampton may give them an entry
into the stale Atlanta market. I would LOVE to actually have a station
like Z-108 with a true adult contmeporary format rather than WSB-FM's
playlist of five songs (All Whitney Houston & Elton John ALL THE TIME)!

Lets' face it, Atlanta radio SUCKS bigtme and some new sounds to air
out the mold would help.

Speaking of new sounds, WTHA (Magic 107.5) is starting to pick up some
spots now. Glad to see some local businesses giving them a try, this
format is great and is a pleasure to listen to, especially the
no-nonsense approach they have. And it certainly fills a big gap!

As far as WGST-FM, maybe they could give Jazz Odors, excuse me, I meant
to say Jazz Flavors (WJZF 104.1)a little competition and play a
modern/mainstream jazz mix. And with the GSt-FM transmitter located off
I-575 in Canton, they certainly could cover the northside alot better
than WJZF whose signal gets smashed by someone out of Northeast Georgia
who plays oldies. Although, just like Cox's B-98.5, the WJZF playlist
consists of maybe five or six songs (mostly Sade and Toni Braxton) so
who cares!

Wouldn't it be great to have a station like the ORIGINAL Jazz Flavors
format that WQXI (Now Star-94) used to do at night. Man, those were the
days.

WKLS-FM 96 Rock going down?
river...@aol.com (RiverwoodR)

What is the REAL story about Atlanta's 96 Rock? Willard gets trashed
over the holidays, now their request line has been disconnected. Are
they in for a format change? Are they going to be another flush down
the toilet same five crappy songs over and over housewife station like
WPCH and WSB-FM ?

Even since Jacor got their hands on the station, it has been sucked
down a large, swirling, brown-tinged toilet bowl.

Sad to see a legen dying. WKLS has been here since 1974/75, and the
signs seem to say that it will be on it's way out. I hope I am worng!

Your TrunkCalc program is invaluable. A local system (Fulton County
192C) finally went from IIi to II and figuring out all the new
talkgroups was easy thanks to your program. 73 de KB4TPP WC4RAV Radio

Note from webmaster- TrunkCalc was created by Dave Norris, KG9AE, and
can be downloaded from his website. It is definitely a good program,
though!

Great unit, they don't make them like this anymore. Time owned: more
than 12 months
I have owned a 733 since 2001, I am the second owner. I use it
everyday, and this is the best 180 dollars I spent (what a deal, only
at a HAMFESt not on GREEDBAY). Never had a bit of trouble, and just
checked it out recently after almost four years mobile. Power output,
better than spec. RX sensitivity, better than spec. The unit is solid,
works well everytime, and in my opinion, the TX audio is miles above
the D700A and Kenwood's of late, and puts Yaesu's tinny cheap audio of
rigs like the FT-90 to shame.

Drawbacks: intermod, especially on UHF. But if you use PL decode, you
won't hear any. The crossband repeat is a little hard to enable, and
once it is on, you must wait for the unit to stop TX or RX'ing before
you can disable it. That's about it on the downside.

Crossband audio is superb, not muddy and overdriven like the D700 (what
a dissapointment).
Considering it's age, it still holds a plethora of features like full
remote control via DTMF, DTMF paging, dual in band recieve, etc.

If you are looking for a solid dual band on the used market, this is
one to consider. I was thinking about replacing mine with a D700, but
after using one (at least on FM voice), you will RUN back to your 733.
They don't make them like this anymore.

Okay radio- not bad, not good Time owned: 0 to 3 months
If you are like me, you demand high standards from your portable, so
you use Motorola. I recently acquired a UHF HT750 and decided to try
one of the new "Waris" series Portables. First impression: cheap radio,
feels like an SP10/SP50.The X-pand compression sucks- had it turned
off. The RX audio is still nowhere near the freq response of my HT1000.
Guess this is due to the physical size. It still runs cirlces around
any ham HT. I don't like the flashing red LED (can be disabled in RSS).
It does have a long battery life (have the HNN9013 Li-Ion battery on
mine) that goes for a couple of days between charges. The radio
performs okay...it just lacks the feel and construction of say, a Jedi
or even a Genesis series portable. For the price, it is decent. Still
outtalks and outlasts any ham HT, but an HT1000 or MT2000 would be a
better choice.
Not a bad Motorola, just not a very good one.
