Hi All

We have a network of 25 PCs, with 2 NT Servers and 2 NT Workstations. The
W/S are used by our computer people. While one of the NT W/S was logged in
as Administrator (Domain User) someone removed the group everyone from the
C$ Administrative share for the Drive C:\ on this W/S from the security tab.
Now, after this W/S has booted and you login as any user (domain or local),
it just shows the wallpaper and nothing else. It says cannot create virtual
machine. If you try to start anything from task manager it says path too
long.

When you access this W/S from the network, all normal shares can be seen and
accessed. Even Admin$ can be accessed, but C$ cannot be accessed. If you try
to share C:\, it says access denied. However, you can make this W/S share
other folders when logged is as administrator on another NT W/S or server.

Any ideas how we can restore this W/S so that it will allow local login for
local and domain users? If anyone needs additional details, I'll be happy to
provide it.

Please reply to: s...@harare.iafrica.com

Thanks.

Usually, anyone can't change ACL of the Administrative Share,Who and
How did so?

I think that anyone changed ACL of NTFS on C:\. So,Noone has right
to Access C:\, and Windows NT System can't setup share of C$.

Please Check ACL of NTFS on C:\.
Then, change ACL as everyone has right to Read And Write.
If access was denied,Get ownership of the c:\.
Administrators have right to get ownership of any folders and
files.
