WoTUG-16
The World occam and Transputer User Group
University of Sheffield, United Kingdom
28-31 March 1993
The Sixteenth Technical Meeting of WoTUG, which is affiliated to The
Transputer Consortium (TTC), will take place at the University of Sheffield,
United Kingdom, from the 28th. to 31st. March 1993.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The WoTUG-16 Programme Committee seeks high-quality submissions from
all researchers and engineers active in the theory and practice of parallel
computing based upon communicating process architectures. We particularly
welcome reports on:
+ innovative approaches to problem solving that exploit, rather
than fight, the nature of parallelism to achieve high-performance
highly-complex highly-reliable applications;
+ the development and application of well-engineered methods for the
design, implementation, verification and optimisation of parallel
systems - together with relevant support tools;
+ run-time support environments for parallel machines;
+ theoretical studies on any aspect of concurrency (e.g. the
practicalities of general-purpose parallel computing);
+ the integration of parallel computing with `mainstream' computing
(e.g. porting exercises from large existing serial codes);
+ `state-of-the-art' applications from any field - industrial,
commercial, scientific or mathematical. (Note: these papers must
be self-contained - i.e. understandable, and of benefit, to non-
specialists in the subject).
Authors of papers are asked to submit FOUR copies of an extended
abstract of about 1500 words to the meeting organiser (see end of this
announcement) by November 9th. 1992. Successful authors will be notified by
the beginning of December 1992. Camera ready copy will have to be submitted
by January 11th. 1993, so that they can be included in the proceedings which
are to be published by IOS Press in the Transputer and occam Engineering
series.
CONFERENCE STRUCTURE
The conference will be held in Earnshaw Hall which is situated in its
own grounds to the west of the centre of Sheffield. Accommodation will be
located in the same building. The conference will comprise a number of
different activities, including:
+ single-stream presentation of the refereed papers. Participants
at the meeting will receive these papers in a book at conference
registration.
+ meetings of Special Interest Groups, which include: transputer
hardware, occam3, occam re-targetting, education, artificial
intelligence, graphics and image processing, parallel
environments, numerical methods, real-time and safety critical
systems.
+ two parallel half-day tutorials will be organised as part of the
meeting:
(i) a practical hands-on workshop demonstrating the use of occam
and the transputer for real-time control and safety critical
systems.
(ii) a T9000 System Workshop will explore the technical features
of the T9000 to see how highly parallel systems which are
independent of processor topology can be designed and used.
This workshop will be based upon, and extends, the recent
workshop organised by WoTUG at the University of Kent.
+ a panel session (containing at least one key INMOS representative)
will form an important component of the conference. The panel
will respond to technical, political and economic questions raised
by the participants - this can get fairly lively!
+ an exhibition of transputer based equipment is also planned.
Provided INMOS keep to current schedules, this will be one of the
first occasions for demonstrating fully functional T9000
transputers to a public audience. Accurate details will be
announced nearer to the conference.
The conference will be limited in size to enable maximum discussion and
interaction between participants during the meeting. Prizes will be awarded
for the best paper, the best student paper and the best joke about
transputers, occam and/or parallel C.
