Sounds criminal. No one should be allowed to cannibalize a DN10k. They're
much too fun a white elephant. :-)

Probably. The card itself is the same controller that's used for the 760MB
disks (and SCSI tape devices) in the DN3500/4500/5500. I don't know what
rev-level the DN3500 needs to be at. Easiest would be to put it in and try
to boot. The WD7000 controller can handle the 170MB disk, the 348MB-FA
disk, as well as the 760MB disk. It can handle 2 disks, and (if the rev-level
is ok) you can use 2 controllers. Obviously, if you use more than one drive,
you need to get some cabling and an external cabinet. See the FAQ for more.

These are the 348MB-FA disks talked about above. They are ESDI. Depending on
the OMTI controller, you may not be able to use them at all, unless you go to
the WD7000 (if it works). If memory serves me, the only difference between
the DN10k and DNxxxx disk jumpering is JP6 - drive spinup on power-on. The
DN10k powers up the disks one at a time (wimpy PwrSply), while the DNxxxx want
the drive to spin up on power-on. (I just checked the 'jumper' program in
/systest/ssr_util -- I was right.) Incidentally, this program is very useful
for answering many configuration Qs. If you want/need to use the OMTI ctrlr,
check the jumper program for the settings (and possibility).

> on the DN3500 ?
Don't know either part number. If the DN10k monitor plugged in to a big
X-bus card, then it's a 1280x1024 monitor with either 40 or 80 planes, and I
don;t know where it will and won't work (but I'd suspect that it'd work only
with the 1280x1024 controller for the DNxxxx machines). If it connects to a
controller in the DN10k's AT bus, then it's a plain old ordinary 1024x800
8 plane monitor, and will work with the 1024x800 controllers (4 or 8 plane)
that exist for the DNxxxx. In addition, the controller from the DN10k will
work too.

> 4) Some other ideas what to use out of a DN10000 ? ;-)
- Use it as a compute engine, instead of a scrap pile.
- Sell it to me (not Honeywell) for shipping plus the little scrap value that
you're getting from it.
- Donate it to InterWorks (no, I'm not speaking for them either).
- Keep it under maintenance and insist on responses to any and all problems
so that you can become a despised customer inside the HP support area. :-)

You are buying a VAX 11/750 instead of the DN10000 ? ;-)

Yes! We wanted even higher maintenance costs and batch job queues that
will last until the year 2000 for jobs already submitted :-).
