The models are DN3010, DN3500, DN2500 (with a
19" monochrome monitor) and DN4000 (color monitor).
We have the following hardware problems:
1) The 19" b/w monitors of the DN3010's and of the
DN3500 have started to either
- flicker or
- shift the display to the right (so that
for example an X login window will be near the
the right edge of the screen instead of in
the middle) or
- shrink the horizontal width of the display
by half (resulting in a crisp picture,
but all characters half as wide as they used
to be, and parts of the screen on the right and
left edge not used at all).
One of the monitors has given up completely (it gave a high
sound, I turned it off, and it went black forever when
I turned it on again).
2) The DN3500 (with an internal winchester disk) crashed
and will not boot again. The self test fails:
SELF TESTS IN PROGRESS.

CPU TEST #7 STARTED
MEMORY MODULE 1 TEST #0 STARTED
WINCHESTER DISK TEST #0
SELF TEST FAILED.
UNEXPECTED CPU BUS ERROR REFERENCING 0004D000
PC=0000FD5B
Alternatively, I also got PC=00000010.
Questions:
a) Does somebody know how to interpret (and what to
do about) the particular problems we are having ?
In order to recover the data on the 300MB-disk of the
DN3500, would it be possible to take its disk out
and put it into a DN3010 or a DN4000 (they originally came
with a 150MB-disk) ?
b) I wonder whether other people have seen their workstations
disintegrate all at the same time after 5 years ?
Thank you for any answers (in this news group or by email to
lie...@math.tu-berlin.de).
