It just means that the manufacturer hasn't set a recommended retail price,
so the store is free to set a price. I don't think it means there is any
leeway for bargaining, but it is always worth a try. I always think it is
pretty meaningless from the customer's point of view, as you invariably find
that the price is the same at every shop anyway. And when you see an advert
in a newspaper or magazine for a new video camera or something, it would be
nice to know roughly what the price is. Simply stating "open price" isn't
particularly helpful.

-- I have never had a problem negotiating on an open price. Just spend a
long long long time and they will always give you a good deal just to get
you out of there shop. When I bought My Panasonic digital camera, it was
listed as open price, and it said, 89 998 and they gave it to me for 78000
after 2 hours, likewise when I bought my guitar it was listed at 180 000 and
I got it for 140 000.
My understanding on Open price was that the manufacturer has yet to specify
a suggested retail price, because it is a new item, but will after a couple
months of sale. I think the stores actually report final sale prices, and
that helps to determine the final suggested retail price. Kind of like a
monitor sale, Panasonic often runs them on their home page.

Your going to buy a Gibson? I'm obviously in the wrong business, all I could
afford was an Epiphone (Les Gibson Studio Limited Colour).

They'll know that Brett's a "万 short" as
soon as he walks in the door.

Yeah,it'll be my third in as many years. I have a regular production line
standard. A faded sg and now I'm getting a '57 reissue black beauty.
Contrary to what some other gibson fans might say epiphones are fine guits
too.

I'm really a bassist (hence the Jazz Bass) and never owned a good guitar. I was
quite impressed with the Epiphones, the neck feels lovely with a nice low and
consistent action. It's by far the best guitar I've owned and after a bit of
practice I realised I am a much better guitarist than I had thoght (this is of
couse is relative). The sound is good, all for 40,000, although I've seen them
for 35,000. I'm not very tall, and although I am fairly strongly built I have
very small hands - Les Paul Customs and Standards are too heavy and thick for
me. The Studio is perfect, as an SG would be. I can't even play a Precision Bass
and the neck is too wide, I have to use a Jazz Bass.
As nice as it would be I'm not prepared to pay 200,000+ for a real Gisbon, there
are so many other things I want - another synth and some better sound equipment.
.
I used to play bass quite a bit when different bands of friends of mine
needed a bass player and not a guitar player. I could do it real well too
seeing as how I'm a guitar player and always had it in my head how I WANTED
a bass player to sound behind my playing(loud, distorted, and obscene)but I am
first and foremost a guitar player. My hands aren't huge but I do dig the
bigger guitar necks than the smaller. However bass necks are a different
monster for me and that Fender J-bass neck is MUCH cooler to play on than a
P-bass.By the way,the neck on my SG is thick as shit.

Yeah,I want to buy one of the new Fostex digital 8 track machines and they
are cheaper than hell right now but I really want this new gibby first. Me
and my wife have no kids and we live very cheap with her family so.....I
like good guitars. She likes traveling. We indulge each others whims on this
shit so I have cool axes. I just gotta find people who want to play old
school hard rock and metal and can do it on the nights that I'm not working.
What color is your epi anyway? I couldn't see the link for some reason or
another.
Brian
My style is based on Sting (early days of course). I like 3 peices and my idea
is the bass should be playing something quite different to the guitar, sort of
fitting around the drummer much the way Sting and Copeland did. I tend to play
around the root, rather than root 5th and 7ths that most do. It often throws
drummers out that aren't confident of keeping time, but once you have a reporte
you can break time really well together.
A colleague of mine is a brillant guitarist and has around 14 guitars. I have
been singing the praises of SGs for a year but he hasn't ever picked one up.

Sorry count me out. Think Rage Against the Machine.
I was checking out multi effect boards the other day. I might buy the Boss, it
is < 30,000yen whereas each Boss effect is around 10,000. But I have a
compressor and distortion which about all I use anyway, a chorus would be nice
though. Are you a Doctor of Effects? I tend to use just a touch of distortion.

Wine red. Beautiful finish but sort of not the nasty punk that I see my self as.

restart the interweb thingy again. try again
