Is there an equivelant in Jpanese to the terms "doo-hickey" ,
"doo-dad" or "whatchama-call-it" etc?

Don't patronize us; we've all been through Advanced Japanese and can
therefore read katakana. We have maxed out, you see.

Well if you can read katakana, then you can surely read hiragana. No?

I must be missing something here.

I thought the subject was aiming for this year's Whooooosh-ee award.

Perhaps a Chicago style sweep of the awards is on the cards?

No. Gaigins can only read katakana. This is common knowledge.

Perhaps, but nothing worth worrying about.

I thought gaigins spoke in katakana, and couldn't read any of it.

Aye, that would require some hard yards up the middle. If he played
rugger, he'd be a forward. Though after the vintage "god damn yankees"
and "it's pretty funny" posts in this thread, he might switch his focus
from whooooosh-ee to the latter.

sense of humor.
