Could have knocked me off my rather substantial arse when the missus told me
the news this afternoon before evening classes. Totally bored all my
students with the news.

I can't help but wonder what the Nihon Sumo Kyokai 'didn't' offer him by way
of an incentive to remain in the fold. The guy was an obvious future
candidate for the chairman's position. And as for the kyokai's commitment
to making sumo a truly worldwide sport - that idea's just taken a huge step
backwards. I think I'll just follow my standard line - one that usually
gets me in trouble over at rec.sport.sumo - that it's a conspiracy to do
with the Takanohana.

On a technical point - something the larger of the Kanagawa fappers can
probably answer - don't K-1 fighters have to be a bit more nimble on their
feet? Sumo is all about taking small steps to control your balance and keep
your center of gravity as fixed as possible.

Try to find some video of Emmanuel Yarborough and
Daiju Takase's fight from "Pride 3" for the answer
to that question. I can't seem to find anything on
my quick search before I have to get to bed.

I have to agree that he won't be quick enough. He'll get his butt kicked
pretty good. He knows side stepping, thrusting and bitch slapping. Unless he
gets into some type of submission or "finish it" art, he's got an uphill
climb. "But wait! I just knocked him down. You mean I don't win?" (as he's
getting punched across his face)

Sorry I don't know much about K-1 or sumo.
