Grew up in the the mid-west, but moved to Texas, then LA. I miss lottsa
things about the mid-west (thundershowers, warm summers, etc.) that I
also found in Tokyo. This time of year, it's leaf-viewing. Anyone making
any trips? I remember both Inogashira and Kouganei parks gave me my fixes.
I'm thinking of taking a couple days off and visiting my daughter on the
East Coast just to see some reds, yellows, and oranges.

The Emperor's trees haven't really put in a noticeable amount of colour change as of yet which tends to be my indicator of how well Autumn is progressing.
This year, I suspect a few people will give leaf viewing a bit of a miss as there seems to be a number of people convinced that leaves even in (or especially in) Tokyo are so Cesium contaminated they will not be safe to be around.

month or so ago, and a lot of rain with high wind that blew some
leaves off, then it got really warm and then cold again. It's confused
the trees, I think. I was in the Smokies last weekend and it was so-
so; lots of trees shed their leaves early this year, leaving large
gray gaps in the scenery.

in Kamikochi about 4 weeks ago. A few maples were turning red
but that was about all. The locals said the 紅葉 was late this year.
I had a row on the Arakawa last Saturday in an eight (out of the
戸田漕艇場), and I'd expected it to be reasonably cool weather
by late October. No way - still good old 蒸暑い.

(ie, hill), but not a lot of colour in evidence. We dropped into
Okutono Jinya on the way back where there was at least some colour.
This weekend I'm off to Ise again, but not expecting much.
