Question for this group.

What are the types and costs of broadband connections in Japan.
SPecifically in Kanazawa or the Ishikawa prefecture. I'm going ot be
moving there and simpley CANNOT go back to dial up. ATT/Comcast has
spoiled me.

Thanks

Dave

I don't know much about the interweb thingy but I know das webmeister of
http://www.gol.com is a really great guy, although some of his friends are a bit
dodgy. GOL customers are both more intelligent and attractive than average and
do surprisingly well with the opposite sex, and in some cases the same sex.

You will be happy with broadband in Japan. I had Comcast in the US and
B-FLETs in Japan, I found the B-FLETs connection was somewhat better than
Comcast.

My understanding is that broadband is more common now in Japan than in the
US

That's good to hear. Does anyone happen to know the cost of these
conections? I have only seen one listing on the web that showed
fiber cptic at ~$50 USD per month and speeds as high as 100mbs. Is
this realy the rate/s? If so I'll be diggin it.

It's certainly a lot better than the 30,000+/month
that she used to give them for an ISDN CONnection.

Man! That brings back memories of connecting to CompuPerve via nifty.

So all in all, not bad. Faster connections for about the same than I
am paying now. Good, very good.

Thank you all.

that brings back memories of getting monthly bills from chumpuserve via
nifty even though I had never signed up for them. Even now if I do an email
search using my name, my old and never-used chumpuserve email address shows
up.

If you get Yahoo BB you also get the "BB Phone" which lets you make
calls to the US at 2.5 yen a minute (and the first two months of calls
are free, at least under the current deal). It just goes through your
normal phone and normal phone line.

Tell me who the YAHOO BB (Yahoo Broadband) babe on the ads is? I saw a clone
of her outside Namba station recently with the hottest little campaign-girl
outfit (g-string thong clearly visible). Have no idea if their Broadband
service is any good but the campaign gets 10 out of 10.

I recently discovered that even my piece-o-shit ISP provides the same
service, at the same rate. Gotta sign up for it one of these days.

Ryoko Hirosue. And I don't really understand the appeal.

Really? After about 284,178 showings of the commercials on TV over the last
month, I'm kind of sick of it.

PS. Call me biased, but after 2 months of B-Flets, I can't imagine anyone
wanting to waste their time on ADSL if fiberoptic is also available. Trust me:
it's worth every bit the 7000 yen per month.

Michael Cash and fj.life.in-japan is a baaaaaaaaaaad combination:

I decided not to do that, because everyone I'd ever want to call in the US is
already wired and using MSN Messenger, which means I can just start a voice chat
with them and talk to them as long as I damned well please for exactly zero yen
per minute. Plus, I have a webcam to torment them with.

I can understand using IP telephony to call people who aren't on the net, but I
prefer taking advantage of what I've already got.
