Im really in to this game but all the good servers are too far for a decent
ping.
I thought we could create a server here if anyone is willing.

1. Download Gamespy.

2. Set the country in your profile to Japan.

3. Click 'only servers in my country' on the browser screen.
(If you have ADSL or cable play on any server under 150 ping. Your
in-game ping should be under 100.)

4. Say hello if you see a player called BertieWooster.

Hi,
I already have Gamespy.
I actually used to use mplayer back in the old days until gamespy bought
them out.
I get really bad ping on all the servers, the best is 50 on
^1CoD JAPAN #1 ^7[Demolition+CustomMap] (222.145.140.180:28960)
Ive the NTT 24mbps but its not improved my ping at all from when I was on
YahooBB 12mbps.
Ive no idea whats wrong. But it should be quicker right?
cheers

How about Battlefield 1942?

Only by the difference in propagation time down your link at 24Mbps vs.
12 Mbps. If it was 30 microseconds faster, I would be surprised. Ping
times are dominated by network routing delays, not by the speed of your
individual link.

On an FPS anything under 100 is good. If you are experiencing
problems, you should check for packet loss.

Try a simple speed test. Use the ping button to test for packet loss.

http://www.musen-lan.com/speed/

On an 8M cable line I get 4.724Mbps and an average ping of 17ms

Mr. Webster and I used to play that often using the Desert Combat mod.

We have graduated to Battlefield Vietnam. It is much better.

I'm new at these FPS shoot-'em-ups, and chose 1942 over the Vietnam
version for two reasons:

1. It was about half the price
2. The system requirements are much lower, and I was sure it would run
better on the new Celeron box I recently built for the wifenkiddies to
use. (I wanted to have a game I could play with my son over the LAN).

Have you tried the "Experience WWII" mod for 1942? It's great, in my
opinion. The developers try to remove a lot of the arcade BS from the
game and bring it closer to being a historically accurate (or at least
historically plausible) sim.

Hi,
I did a test does this look any good? (NTT 24mbps)
10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/mdev = 18.524/19.477/25.174/1.912 ms

Silly question but when I enable my firewall I cant do this test . it says
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
This is normal right? I know nothing about these things.

thanks for that link Mukade.
