Hi,

Is there a set of UNIX tools out there to manipulate Japanese
postsripts or PDF files?
For example, I am looking of tools to extract the japanese text
from Postscripts/PDF files so that I can have send them to machine
translater.
A japanese PDF viewer running on english UNIX machine
would be of great help as well. What about converter PDF<->PS
for Japanese? Japanese enabled GS (ver 5.10) doesn't seem to do
the trick... :-(

Thanks.

The CJK font kits for Acrobat (4.0, of course!) are available for free
downloade from Adobe's web site. I thnk these are platform independent. If
not, then I guess there ought to be a UNIX version somewhere too.

If you print a PDF file to PS, and it contains embedded CID fonts, then the
fonts will/should be embedded in the output. If the fonts weren't embedded,
then it will probably try to use Ryumin etc. as usual.

I setup gs5.5 with VFlib. When I try to view a Japanese PDF file, it produce
the following error messages. When I view another Japanese postscript file, it
is OK. What seems to be wrong here? Do I not have Ryumin-Light already when I
install/configure VFlib? ( I borrowed the microsoft ttf )
