mule emacs, kanji trouble

I'm a beginner with Japanese, so I'm having trouble understanding the
manuals I've found. I have mule working, and can edit files with
Hiragana and Katakana fine. I want to add Kanji.

I know you must select a region, and then convert it to kanji, or
select from a list of characters. I'm just not sure the command to do
this.

Can someone help? I'm of course already running in skk-mode.

Why do you use mule instead of emacs of higher version?
Why do you use skk instead of canna, wnn, sj3, pobox anthy, whiz, or t-code?

What is the version of Emacs you are using? If you have
installed Emacs 21.1, 21.2 or 21.3 and also the LEIM package,
you will be able to write kanji without needing other programs.
Isn't it changed into kanji if you type the space key after you
insert hiragana? Otherwise, try the following:

Run Emacs
M-x set-input-method[RET]
japanese[RET]
C-\

Where the `C-\' key is the command to switch writing of Japanese
and ascii text.

Although skk is a good tool, I'm not using it unfortunately.

What is the version of SKK you are using?
I'm using DDSKK 12.2.0, which provide English manual.
Try C-u M-x skk-tutorial [RET] English [RET].

If you really are beginner, I recommend you to use other tools,
because you need to type OKURIGANA (送り仮名) correctly
to type KANJI in SKK's KANJI-mode.

If you have already started SKK, you can write KANJI by typing uppercase
for the first letter of the word that you want to type as KANJI.

A example:
If you want to write
私
you must type
Watashi
and hit space-key. The first letter "W" must be uppercase.

Another example:
If you want to write
走る
you must type
HashiRu
To enter KANJI-mode, hit uppercase "H", and to tell SKK that OKURIGANA
is "る" you must type uppercase again, "R".
