CALL FOR PAPERS, EXTENDED ABSTRACTS, AND NEW IDEAS

Special Session of EuroPVM/MPI 2003
Current Trends in Numerical Simulation for
Parallel Engineering Environments
New Directions and Work-in-Progress

September 29th - October 2nd, Venice, Italy

http://wwwbode.in.tum.de/events/parsim03/

Simulating practical problems in engineering disciplines has
become a key field for the use of parallel programming environments.
Remarkable progress in both CPU power and network technology has been
paralleled by developments in numerical simulation and integration of
the software used to support a large variety of engineering applications.
Besides these traditional approaches for parallel simulation and their
constant
improvement, the appearance of new paradigms like Computational Grids
or E-Services has introduced new opportunities and challenges for
parallel computation in the field of engineering.

This special session is intended to provide a discussion forum for
scientists
from both the engineering disciplines and computer science in order
to foster a closer cooperation between them. In contrast to traditional
conferences, emphasis is put on the presentation of up-to-date results
with a short turn-around time, which can also include the presentation
of work-in-progress with only partial results available at the time
of submission. Authors are also encouraged to present new projects and/or
ideas in the abovementioned field.

For the second time, the session is embedded into the EuroPVM/MPI conference
with its long tradition as one of the European prime events in parallel
computation. EuroPVM/MPI 2003 will serve as an ideal surrounding for this
special session and will enable the participants to present and discuss
their work within the scope of both the session and the host conference.

Topics for this special session include, but are not limited to,
real-world problems from electrical, mechanical, civil, or medical
engineering requiring parallel simulation techniques, problem solving
environments for parallel simulation problems, software techniques to
optimize parallel simulations, as well as mathematical aspects for
parallel simulation approaches. Papers describing practical and/or
industry experience are especially encouraged.

Author instructions:

Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts or short papers
with at most 4 pages (Postscript or PDF format in LNCS style as
described on the conference web site). Submissions should illustrate new
and innovative directions in the area of parallel simulation techniques
in engineering environments.

All submissions should be sent directly to

mailto:pars...@mailbode.informatik.tu-muenchen.de

All submissions are due by June 20th, and because of the strict time
schedule, there will be no room for extensions. The review period
will be short ensuring a quick turn-around time and giving all
accepted authors the chance to revise their contributions until
July 5th (EuroPVM/MPI camera ready deadline).

Accepted papers will be published in the EuroPVM/MPI proceedings
as part of Springer's LNCS series. Accepted contributions are expected
to be presented by one of the authors at EuroPVM/MPI 2003 during the
ParSim session.
