DVD-Rom won't read DVDs but reads CDs

I have a SDR-430 DVD-Rom drive when windows xp installs the drivers for
it windows displays the model as well as the fact that it is a DVD
drive but once it is installed under my computer it is listed as a CD
Drive it plays and reads cd just fine no problems what so ever but for
what ever reason it does not play or read DVDs I have tried alot
already I have upgraded the firmware uninstalled and reinstalled the
drive disconnected and reconnected it but to no end. Please some one
help me out.

It sounds like the DVD laser in your drive has failed. You could try
to get a replacement DVD if it is still under warranty. Otherwise
you'll need to buy another DVD drive.
