Hi,
I'm interested in buying a camcorder and I previously bought the Canon
MV650i - the problem with this one was that the tape motor could be clearly
(and annoyingly) heard on the recordings. The functions of the new MV750i
suit me, but I wondered whether anyone knew if they had got rid of the
annoying tape motor sound on the recordings?

Please let me know
Thanks

Kylie

Sorry, don't *know*, but strongly suspect not.
I've the earlier 550i and the motor noise is horrendous.
Worse, after 14-15 months the cam started chewing up tapes, and the
repair folk (independent, not Canon) said the motor was on its way out
and would be "uneconomical" to replace. (They'd quoted £75+VAT handling
charge but waived this because they did a temporary fix they told me
(correctly) that problem could recur at any time, so I trust their
advice). They said it was "a common problem with Canon camcorders"
-check the camcorder discussion groups and you'll find *many* complaints
about the failing of tape motor).
Naturally, reviews or owner experience can't reflect these problems when
the machine is a brand new or very recent model.
It's your choice, but I will certainly NOT buy Canon again. The picture
and sound quality (when external sounds drown out the motor!) are
excellent, but I can't afford to replace an expensive camcorder every 2
years or less.

Hi,

I've just brought one of these and I am impressed.
Canon seem to have got rid of the motor noise after many complaints
The same camera is called the ZR90 in the US and Canada and I found
this link to a good review.

Hope this helps
