anyone got a USB cable they could sell me? I need it to upgrade the firm
ware, otherwise I would use the card reader. Any help gratefully received.

You can upgrade the firmware using the CF card. See:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0009/00092802coolpixcfupgrade.asp - this
works for the 995 as well. I used it to upgrade my camera to v1.7.
