Kodak DC 4800 Broke

I have a DC 4800 Digital camera that has started being hard to turn and intermittently will shutdown on it's on.  Sometimes it will come with Time/Date screen in view with the default settings.
 
I contacted Kodak today.  They said the price to fix any problem on a DC 4800 is $150.00.
 
Any suggestions where I may have the camera problem looked at other than Kodak will be appreciated.  I live in The Panhandle of Florida near Penscaloa.

Working from previous experience, the best place to send a 4800 for repair
is the local garbage tip. I sent mine away (under warranty), they claimed I
had dropped it (crap) and wanted to charge $AU890 to fix it. After some
yelling and screaming at them both by myself and the dealer, they fixed it
for $AU380.

Within 3 months after these clowns had put their greasy paws on it, the back
casing had cracked, the flash didn't work, the LCD screen no longer
worked... I went and bought a Canon G3 which has performed perfectly (6,000+
pics) and has now been supplemented by a 300D.

I checked the 4800 the other day to see if I could give it to my nephew, and
the bloody thing doesn't even turn on now...

Where is the 4800 made ??
I have the 4200 which was given best camera for money by PC user magazine
australia in 2000 the year I bought it .. the 4200 was cheaper yet the photo
quality was superor but it didnt have the ability to capture video which I
think is a stupid adition to a still camera ... it has been dropped several
times and the last time a cover came slightly adrift and needed the screws
loosened before i could put it back in place ... yet the first time it hit
the deck at a hell of a rate of knots onto a cement floor and it has never
given me a problem regardless of these mishaps .. so if the 4800 has given
up yet hasnt had this sort of treatment something has to be asked about the
quality of this model ... the 4200 was made in japan .. as kodak rebadge I'd
be interested in the origin of the 4800??
