he gave me one from his scanner to use
but the polarity was wrong ;-( and now when i plug in the original supply
nothing happends even with a battery
what have i blown? is it fixable? or should i just bin it ?

can anyone help?

I would think you have blown a diode, if one is fitted for protection. If
one not fitted you have f---ed it.
I suggest you phone JVC technical for advice.

cheers I opend the unit up and found what looks like a small smounted black
diode?? very small with three little legs 1 from the top and 2 from the
bottom
I dont know what it is but it has a bubble mark due to heat. I can just make
out some number I think its says on it 352A?
I havent a clue what the component was more or less next to the power
input..

Cheers Ray

Beware - Most diodes hve only two leads. Cathode and Anode.

Hi...

Could be an SCR - but I can't think why :)

Perhaps if it was an AC supply, but he mentioned it
was reverse polarity, so...

Think he's stuck - has to beg the manufacturer to
either sell him one of whatever it is; or at least
tell him what it is :)

Last resort would be to find a schematic I guess...

Take care.

3 leads certainly isn't a diode. Sounds more like a voltage stabiliser.
And these do not really like reverse polarity...
