Can anyone tell me what (if any) the speed difference between read and write
operations for Smartmedia and CompactFlash II is?

I have a camera with dual slots and I am currently using Smartmedia. Will I
see a visible improvement by switching to CompactFlash II?

The only consumer camera I know of that has dual slots this year is the
Olypmus C-5050- which also allows you to run XD. If I was you I would
probably run XD rather than Smart Media and pop a CF in there for backup.
Supposedly XD is better for battery consumption and speed transfers.
