Canon S45 wimpy flash improvement

Is there any way to improve the wimpy performance of the flash unit on this
series of Canon cameras?Except for that weakness I love the camera, but
indoor night shorts absolutely stink.

I have S45 too. But I have a problem. The photo shown in the display was
good, but it was turned into lower brightness after downloaded into PC. Why?
Any method to improve besides editing them one by one with photo editors?
