I have a Sony 2 mega pixel camera that I bought in October 2002. I am very
pleased with the features it has and the usage in Asia and Panama recently.

Sony has some cameras in the 3 mega pixel range. I am of two minds about
going for a 3 + mega pixel camera. On one hand I feel I should learn all
the basics with the one I have which has 2 mega pixels but then I wonder if
I will be missing some nice pictures only because I don't have a 3 mega
pixel one. Recently I shot a picture of a sun set in an island and I have
been wondering if a higher pixel would make it even more dramatic.

Any comments pro and con will be welcome.

Yeah, I think it just might!

For me I feel like anything under 3MP is kind of a toy. I probably
shouldn't share /my/ rationale but 3MP is like the cut-off point
between usable as pro/prosumer and not. I'll probably change this
thinking to 4MP in the fairly short term. In the meantime you can
use software interpolation like "S-Spline" to get you from 2MP to 3MP
without a whole lot of difference between the S-Spline output and
what a mid-range-quality 3MP camera (like the Sony) will produce.

I /do/ think the difference between a 4MP camera's output and a 2MP
interpolated to 4MP picture /is/ noticable though.

Look here for a word or two (and the demo download) about S-Spline:
