I am not at all certain this is the place to post this. I was hoping for
some advice on repairing a HP 618 digital camera. After 14 months owned, it
will not work and shows a flash symbol with ERR . I have seen many of the
same model on eBay with the same problem, so it must be quite common.

Any advice? HP quoted $150 for the repair, so forget that.

You can call HP and request a repair parts brochure if you want to fix the
flash yourself. If not then you will need a new camera. $150 to fix a
digital camera is a pretty good price( 2 hours labor at $60 + $20 for flash
unit). But of course cheap labor is hard to come by and is neither
suggested. You may want to get a new camera. I have a Canon A70. It's got
good reviews and has a strong flash. 8-)

Thats what happens when you buy HP. See what the camera is worth when it's
all fixed. If it turns out to be cost effictive then that's a bonus. You
could try selling it and putting you new found wealth towards buying new.
(not hp though). Other than that, go with Matt's advice. I suggest the A70
as well!!
