Hi there, I hope this is the right place to post this.

I went to download and install Fixity for Windows but when I go to extract the file to install it looks like I have downloaded the MAC version:

If I try to run the Fixity.exe from this folder it sits on "Initialising application" until I restart my machine.

If I open the MACOSX folder there is a second fixity.exe that throws an error if I try to run it:

Does anyone know what's going on?

Thanks

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for using Fixity! It seems that you tried to run the .exe file before unzipping it, correct? Before installing the app on Windows, you need to unzip the file first, otherwise it will not work. Let me know if this solved the issue.

Best,
Pamela

Pamela,

Thanks for contacting me. I had previously unzipped the file for the installation. I had fixity correctly installed a few weeks ago but after my computer went to tech services it came back without it. This morning I downloaded the file, unzipped it, and encountered the error. At no time did I attempt to install the file without unzipping it. The screenshots were of the zipped file so as to show what was in the original download.

Thanks,

Hi Elizabeth,

Just a quick question, did you try to install Fixity as an administrator of that machine? It sounds like it could be a permissions issue. Could that be the case? Also, what version of Windows are you using?

Thanks!
Pamela

Pamela,

I did install as an administrator and I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise.

Thanks for taking time to help with this.

Hi Elizabeth,

Other users have experienced issues with the new version of Fixity running on Windows 7, we are aware of this issue and will evaluate possible fixes. Could you please try installing the app on a different computer running a different windows version? If problems persist, please let us know and sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks!
Pamela

Hi Pamela,

I don't have access to any computers with a different version of Windows. Due to restrictions by our tech services we are limited to what we can install where. It looks like I'll have to use something else until a fix comes along. Thanks for looking into this.

Hi Elizabeth,

Did you ask directly to tech services? It is also possible that they set up additional security measures that are preventing Fixity from writing the required initial databases in the system. I am very sorry that we are unable to assist you any further with this particular issue.

Best,
Pamela

I have full administrative permissions for the machines in my office suite and Fixity does not work on any of them either. They all run on Windows 7 Enterprise as that is what our technology plan has called for at this time. Fixity was working for me on March 8th prior to my computer having been worked on. When it came back I had to reinstall but it stopped working. I attempted to get it to run on the other machines in the office but encountered the same issue.

Hi Elizabeth,

One last question: Do you know if you're running 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows?

Thanks!
Pamela

I run the 64 bit version.
