Bulletin board/forum software

Hi people,

For the last few months I've been considering changing the forum
section of the Fixed Gear group away from a Google Group to a
dedicated forum. The Google group was quick and easy to set up, but I
don't think it actually works very well; sometimes E-Mails come
through alerting members of updates when there are none, and likewise
it sometimes takes days before members are alerted of a new post. Has
anyone else noticed this, or is it just me? Additionally, the last
few days have seen spam messages appearing, when the members doing the
posting aren't even a member of the group. Hmm.

If anyone can suggest a nice forum package, please let me know. I'm
presently looking at phpBB as it's free and quite popular. Other
suggestions are welcome.
