Sib. 5.0: Chords and Lyrics Only Output
Posted by Artuero - 27 Sep 08:34PM Hide picture Hi I am new to Sibelius. I have seen this question asked a few times for prior versions but I don't think the answers work for Sibelius 5.
I would like to know how best to output what I will call chord charts where nothing except song lyrics print out with the chord symbols (letters, not the guitar thing) placed above the appropriate places in the lyrics.
From prior versions responses I gather the thing to do is just hide the notes and staves and similar marks. I cannot figure out how to do that.
Ideally if anyone has this workflow down I would appreciate it. I sometimes start with songs I have written in Sibelius where I have already written out a lead sheet that has the melody and guitar chords.
Other times (where the melody is just in my head) I would be inputting from scratch.
Your responses would be appreciated. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 5.0: Chords and Lyrics Only Output

Isn`t it faster to use word processor than to hide notes etc in Sib?
In Sib you can use filtering to copy first the lyrics and then the chord symbols to word processor and in there use Find and Replace to move out the syllablelines and then place the chord symbols with space bar.

symbols/diagrams attached to invisible staves, use Create > Other >
Instrument Change, choose the 'All instruments' ensemble, then the
'Other' family, then use 'No instrument (hidden)'.

Posted by Artuero - 28 Sep 05:10PM (edited 28 Sep 08:49PM) Hide picture The word processor works but a lot of these I already have in Sibelius so it would be easier to just do something like what Daniel suggests. Also I think it looks nicer and ends up with a more rythymic spacing which can be easier to play.
Daniel, I followed your instructions and the staff lines disappeared which is most of the way there. Then I used filters to hide notes and rests and it looks okay. Is there a way to drag a whole line of chords and/or lyrics up (taking up the space that used to have the staves) to use the space more efficiently?
Thanks much. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 5.0: Chords and Lyrics Only Output

Select a syllable (or a chord) and select more (Edit>Select, or CTRL+Shift+A)
That selects chords (or lyrics) from a system.
Then you can move them with arrows (wirh CTRL+arrow they move faster)
Or use Filter

Posted by Shawn Strickland - 29 Sep 04:23PM Hide picture You can also use "Focus on Staves" which will hide the staves that you don't want to see. This is how I do it with jazz charts so that it still can be played back. Just create an extra instrument and put the chord symbols and comping slashes on that stave. Then click on a bar of it somewhere and hit the "focus on staff" button right below the menu bar. This way you can format it how you want, and still listen to the unaffected instruments which are "hidden" but still play back. Then you can delete the instrument name of that specific staff and format the page how you wish. It's a lot quicker than just highlighting notes one at a time and hiding them individually, and you can print out specific parts if you'd/they'd like.
