laptop recs

Hello islanders!
I am humbly asking for your help!
The time has come for me to get a windows laptop and I want to be able
to happily SL in Firestorm, something my stupid expensive macbook
never could do without endless pain.....and why I have been offgrid
for a couple years.
Does anyone have a recent purchase that they love?

Hi,

Yeah, even my 1 year old work Macbook Pro Retina doesn't really do SL well.

I'm actually waiting on the 3080 and 3090 series of cards by nVidia to become truly available (and not just launched and poached by bots and scalpers) before going desktop. The Asus I got a while back is having heating issues at 4K these days, but will serve as a backup at standard HD.

Budget? 4K or standard HD? Portable desktop or truly a notebook that'll go for hours?

would you do an external monitor or the laptop panel?

what size panel?

... i'm looking at msi and asus, they have been reliable, but can be pricey. and the asus despite the self-cleaning fans needs blowing out once a year.

I have no plans for an extra monitor. 

mid size panel for portability , i’ll also be using it for work (quick books/word/adobe suite)

i’ll look at those brands, thank you!

these days, an nvidia 1650 is what i'd consider minimum to do SL on Ultra. if there's a 2060, that'll do. anything higher will run your price up more. as for system memory, 16GB minimum. and the main hard drive should be SSD.

i chose an asus with a nvidia 1660 that i can pick up today !
