Future plans

Hi there,

Over q dozen years ago, I put together a group to share cost and responsibility for Edloe. It expanded to a few more regions, others had adjoining regions, and for a long tine, it worked out pretty well for everyone.

Now, I look at things, and not that I’m too concerned about the numbers, I ponder what the purpose and the relationship of the few remaining regions… is? Are? (You’d think I’d know, being a professional writer.) 

At this point, six of the 18 occupied parcels are on my tab, but I don’t feel much of a connection to much of it. Or that value from it emotionally or personally. I spend a tenth of that on games on my phone, and God bless Fishdom.

 Nor is my social circle, what it is, really conducive to repopulating with our original structure like in the golden age we started in. I tend to idle on my bridge alone, which could be anywhere, and 99.9% of what I do isn’t “community” or cohesive to what used to be these regions. Or I’m at some dance show filming or performing. It’s not the party mountain and podcasting days anymore. And I think it’s time to rightsize and rethink things before I do something impulsive or drastic.

If there’s any of y’all who have been hanging on for momentum’s sake, not feeling it either, and have been pondering the Linden Home/Premium Plus route, now’s a time to consider it. Thanks for the memories, be well, and send postcards from the edge when you think back.

For those wanting to stay, the proce is coming ip with an arrangement that works for all, including me. My forst thought… At a minimum, I’m thinking downsize to just Edloe, raze the mountain for space, reduce Seanchai to one parcel (with my bridge), free up the center, and go from there. If there’s people wanting to go halfparcel or other portions that add up to a new arrangement that is self sustaining again, that could work too. Region management allows for more cooks in the kitchen to terraform and chop things up.

Yeah, I know. A bit of a bombshell. But it’s been on my mind for at least a year, and it’s long past time.

Wow. This is not what I expected to get in the last email of the night. But I also get your point. We (Seanchai) are late on the scene and don't have the same history as the rest of the group. You can't be in SL for 14 years and not realize that things do not last forever the way they once were - things, people, life (even a second one) changes. Of course Seanchai is happy to work with whatever is needed and very much want to stay. We'd also be happy to go halves, which we can discuss privately. I know this is not about the numbers.

I am interested in the timing you have in mind.  We were hoping to honor the parcel you gave us two years ago by doing a Halloween Glen - really do up the terrain level for the holiday and make a big public deal of it. If you are thinking about resizing before October 1, or by October 1 ... it would be helpful  to know so we can rethink our plan.

And here I was just thinking about the changeover to fall on Nowhereville and getting ready to contact the group about making that frost happen next weekend....  Still thinking that would work - let me know Caledonia?

rambling thoughts since I just woke up and the sun isn't even up yet hereabouts....

The social aspect of the islands has been waning for a bit now, and RL is kicking my butt, so there is no denying I don't get in world very often, not even for story time.  Between work, family crisis, and my own health...

I do not want Nowhereville to go away.  I have no plans to leave the island - how much does each sim cost these days?  I was under the impression it isn't the same as the posted land prices online, thought we were grandfathered in somehow on a different pricing system?  Going Premium+ and the LL home route doesn't appeal to me, not enough room to landscape and create environments.

The numbers are as follows:

The 209 represents a full region with 30,000 prim limit. And they add a sales tax, which in Houston TX and Harris County is 8.75% I think.

The way we currently divide up the regions, it's a 3x3 grid with a "fallow" parcel in that grid. Each parcel's rate is currently 25 per month.

The idea of the "fallow" parcel was to keep prims in reserve in case of shared events or other things, and at this point, not really a thing anymore from my perspective. If the area is reduced by a region, the remaining region would be adjusted to include that in the plans, minus a reasonable buffer.

Effectively, my holdings at the moment are Marx, the mountain, Clocktree Park, Daphne's area, and Seanchai.

As for your desire to create the environments and landscapes, whatever the product is that makes that possible at a reasonable price, right now, it's something I'm coming to the end of middlemanning or reselling. I'd think Linden Endowments for the Arts or at what you currently contribute, maybe Nowhereville the full sim goes away, Nowhereville the homestead appears, those who want to migrate over from Nowhereville take the Edloe spots that will be vacated.

Otherwise, it feels like a situation similar to way back when Los Arboles was handed to me by Banana, and the least-worst option with the least headache and future obligation was then handing it to Trill Lomu because she was putting together a small business and platform. So, the parallel to that I think would be handing Nowhereville over to you lock stock and barrel.

In a conversation last night, the phrase "paying customer" came up and I've never wanted to feel like that was how things go. I've always preferred share of tier to rent, and at the moment this is a very lopsided share of responsibility. And my vision of a self-sustaining, frustration-free project, not-for-profit while maybe some space for good deeds is coming to an end, I think.

I am in a much better position financially than I was a couple of years ago, and I can take over Nowhereville.

For now I can support Seanshai, Caledonia, so you don't have to move.   The other two parcels?  I would like to extend my holdings -- believe it or not, Nowhereville is starting to bump up against the limit on prims.  There is a LOT to explore via the portals I have on the beach.....   So being able to move to Edloe is a great option if that is okay with them?

If that's what you'd like to do, that sounds good to me. And if you want to keep it there, slide it somewhere else, etc and so forth... you're the Queen.

And I'm cool about covering any transfer fees, solo son numeros.

I think the rate will stay the same if it's transferred I mean, Edloe wasn't grandfathered, both are full sim 30ks and have the same rate, so should stay 209US? But then, Lab Logic. We'll see. Maybe it'll appear in Sansar? Upside-down?

Checked in with Marx this morning, listening room and screening room and the mountain are a definite bye bye. So soon there will be a corner spot for anyone wishing to hop and free up space for Bela. Nicki? Julie and the Trillings? I'm going to lower the bridges and roads there a bit. (Okay, a lot.)

And cards on table... anyone who's asked about past tier or costs or expenses, I think I've been consistent with the past is the past, if it's really gnawing on you, go donate that amount to a charity or spend it on a cat.

I haven't been in SL for a long while -- my life has been, and continues to be, in a cascade of changes and challenges (family split, moving, job change, health, and now new relationship with partner who is 3000 miles away because of inability to tolerate elevation due to long-covid)  and yet I've still held on to the dream (illusion?) of getting back in.  

I'm willing to free up space on Nowhereville for you, Bela, if you need it.  LS It sounds like you have one spot on Edloe? I would like to hear from Julie and the Trillings about whether or not they want that spot. If either does, then I would defer to them. If none of them want the spot then I will take it and continue to hold onto my dream. If I am leaving Nowhereville to free it up for you, Bela, if possible, I would like to have the month to tie some things up there.

Hello All:

Ive not been lurking this thread... just dealing with another vaccine booster kicking my ass so its taken me a bit to get in here to the correct eMail account to reply!

First off, I want to be transparent about my intentions re: Edloe & as they have been for quite some time now.  If provided the opportunity to do so, I will sustain my current homestead forever even tho I've only been in-world once in the last 7-8 months.  The reason for this is 2-fold.  One: I have a great abiding appreciation for R/LS and the leadership brought to sustain a community both presently and in the past.  My $$ participation is a gesture to support those endeavors and the benefit that so many have shared in past & present.  

Second, I've learned a little something about myself...  I have come and gone in SL a couple of times over the 14+ years I've been involved.  When I come back in-world it is exciting for me to have the prospect (always) of a new build / new homestead to festoon/furnish.  But at the same time, I have this sense of Hiraeth.  I think fondly of the past and miss what once was... such as it is in the Virtual World. 

So, given that to this very day, I feel like I've won the lottery to have a parcel on Edloe... I keep my home there: whether I'm in-world actively or not.  So if Edloe will remain, and I am permitted the opportunity to stay on as a tenant - I would very much appreciate being able to do so. When / if I cycle back into my more active SL activities, I surely know how to scout out great gobs of land I typically purchase.  But I'm also thinking maybe I've learned a middle path: keep my yummy Edloe home, and maybe that is enough for me... we will see

If there is excess capacity that would benefit from support on Edloe: let me know.  I'm content with a $28/ mo investment at present but could do more if that's needed, and I would certainly use the space/prim given the opportunity.  Just let me know

 As I opened this email my heart sank - thinking: "this is it... the perfect, beloved region arrangement has now come to an end."  So glad to learn Edloe will live on.

I'd just like to add for the good of the order . . . unattached to how any of this shakes out . . . that this estate has been the most stress-free, low fuss, zero-drama place we have ever been. And we've been several places that should have been low-drama but somehow weren't.  So thank you, thank you, thank you Laurence for making that possible, inviting us in, and for being committed to things being simple.

I'm thinking SW Edloe for the Trillings because sunset view, and transiting content over may take some turning off group checking for a while, but I did some tests and will work for the stuff I and Mariner have edit rights on.

NE Edloe (formerly mountain) could allow Hulaboom to expand from E Edloe if needed and wanted.

It'll be ok.

Okay, updates...

I've thinned out my park and bay a little, I was tossing way too much junk around. (Although I need to drop a Porsche into the bay to honor the movie Risky Business's 40th anniversary soon... Who's the U Boat commander? I AM!)

Mountain razed. Road spur adjusted, waiting on NE Edloe future resident for final design/terminus. Marx and Angie informed that the North actually goes a bit further than the river.

Larah from Debauche moved her skyhouse over my tree to clear the skies over NE Edloe.

Trillings moved over, just need to politely return stuff that was rezzed for them on Nowhereville and can't be moved over, and they should be clear. I link they and Lil have made a great start in SW Edloe, and thanks to Feline for filling in the East of that road. I may adjust parcel boundaries a little to ensure music stream consistency for them.

Kitten's about 3000 meters or so in the sky, should be a few hundred meters away from everyone. My personal rule is that anything over 200 meters high is none of my concern. Even the build platform for dance I have up over my tree. I've been ignoring it for years. Play nice, keep your draw distance down... nothing 256 meters away is anyone's concern unless it's a sniper.

Didn't take long... messages from two people about NE Edloe, one I've known for a very long time, Doc Mercury. She had been on Nowhereville for a bit. She's tinkering a bit to confirm, put down some trees maybe a bit too far West, but they can be moved as Marx and Angie reworks the North.

If there's anybody else looking to goodnight from Edloe, let me know... or maybe check in, and silence will be considered continued assent, but I prefer to use Opt-In instead of Opt-Out methods, having been in webhosting and customer relationship helping you have awesome shopping experiences marketing whatever I do now I'm still not sure industries (I do know that deduplication is a fair term to use in my documentation, even if it makes my skin crawl).

I'll be ready for a handoff of Nowhereville whenever.

So, what am I forgetting? Questions? Comments? Care for a mint?

Oh, and I'm going through an Emotional Intelligence course at work. (I'm an EQ retard, it seems)

Wow!  that's quite an update!  I'm glad the bridge was still there when I popped in yesterday.

If the Trillings have indeed moved on, then I'll return everything left in Nowhereville in the next day or so - if anything gets mixed up, just holler and I'll fix it.  There probably should be a culling of the Citizens of Nowhereville group membership too as there are a LOT of names in there that I don't recognize.and I thought I pretty much knew all of us on the Five Islands, altho there may be alts floating about that I don't know about  That is a long-term project tho  

I have no idea what is involved in the handoff, but I'm ready when you are.
