From my experience this can't be done, unless you have the installers for the drivers on that drive somewhere. If the laptop isn't horribly old, you can get the drivers from the manufacturers site (like gateway or toshiba) as long as you have the model or serial number. Some drivers may be able to just be copied over like that, but the majority of them have more than 1 file or they have registry entries. It's just a lot simpler to use the manufacturer's website to get the drivers. That's as long as you aren't installing an unsupported version of windows, although if that's the case you probably have the installers for the drivers that you could copy and reinstall.

You could try copying everything, then on the new re-installation when you're updating/installing drivers through Device Manager/Add Hardware you could search the backup for the files it asks for -- but I haven't had a lot of luck with that.

Free Driver Backup ensures all of your multimedia enjoyment as it has the ability to create backup of all the major drivers of Windows system like audio drivers, video drivers, network drivers, mouse drivers, keyboard drivers, etc. By backing up them, you can avoid of serious system problems like video sparkling, sound problems, graphics problems, etc.

Useful driver backup software to help save driver configuration in case you can do nothing when faced with invalid drivers after reformatting or re-installing Windows. It performs just as advertised the backed-up drivers are easy to reinstall. A recommendable alternative for your rainy day

Free Driver Backup helps create backup of registry entries. You can restore registry from the backups in case you need to revert back to a previous version of registry, eliminating unnecessary Re-search troubles.

Free Driver Backup is able to search out the wanted drivers as well as provide the detailed info of any one of them. The provided info includes the name of device, provider, driver date, driver version, etc.

Windows 10 provides powerful tools to quickly and easily back up your device drivers. All you have to do is use a little command line code. Once backed up, you can move the drivers to any location you like, even to an external drive for safekeeping. Restoring your Windows 10 drivers is just as easy as backing them up.

I don't know all of them in detail, but HID is for controls, DFU is for the display, and there are also audio drivers. Microsoft is doing it for security and convenience reasons as far as I know. Normally you can additionally download the drivers from natives website. And there are also driver backup solutions out there like "driver backup 2" -instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/

Do you know if "driver backup 2" backs up all the various individual drivers pictured above, or would they need to be downloaded again after restoring the standard driver and connecting the HW for the first time?

It's quite normal now days for windows to have all kinds of drivers. The days of having to download every single driver by different websites are (almost) gone. Even bios and other firmware can be done through windows updates.

On driver backup 2 you get a list of all devices you see in device manager and it backs the drivers up after setting so, you don't need to download them again - other driver backup software works mostly the same, some even have a view like device manager.

I have personally tested this on a standard windows 10 that i installed on the tablet, then i used this driver pack and it installed all hardware, including touch screen and auto rotate, everything works. You can use it on any windows 10 edition.

I've backed up a few Driver Folders but mostly on HP computers as I was advised. I will be moving from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 at some point. I know Windows 10 is pretty good at bringing in drivers but I want to be prepared, especially on my main work pc.

My question is for Dell computers, do I Copy the contents of the 'drivers' folder and the 'DriverStore' folder to get all the important drivers? or is it just one that I need?

I was very surprised at how good Win 10 is at installing drivers. Canon said they don't support my color printer with Win 10. But when I connected the printer to the new PC, Win 10 recognized it immediately, installed a driver and the printer works perfectly, even though Canon said "no"...

I used driver updater on my Dell XPS 7390 2in1 and it showed me a number of drivers which I couldn't find even on Dell website. I did an update and after that Dell keyboard that was paired via Bluetooth with this laptop stopped working.

Man, I hate you guys (CCleaner). I spent five years asking for a way to rename Windows Apps in CCleaner like we can every other program, and you just said that it was low priority and that you wanted to focus on CCleaner bugs. Five years focusing on bugs, huh? Then my request got buried. So I know you don't give two craps about me or anyone else. So I tried this Update Driver feature and 25% or so into the driver updates, my Bluetooth stopped working. It didn't work on a Windows restart. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Bluetooth. I tried using Driver Updater to revert all the driver updates. Finally, I restored Windows to June 7th, four days before I even used CCleaner's Driver Updater. Still doesn't work. I unpaired my Bluetooth devices and tried pairing them again. Most of the time it would not pair. But like, if I got lucky with my Logitech K380 and paired it after it asked me to type a pin and press Enter, the keyboard still won't work. And it won't show up in my Logitech Options. I also tried reinstalling Logitech Options. I tried repairing my Logitech Wireless Headsets and my mouse. But each time it is the same thing, even after pairing, the devices won't work. They just keep blinking their lights trying to connect to my laptop, but they won't. This is disastrous for me, because this particular laptop had a factory defect where every laptop of that model had a keyboard that didn't work. And for those who shipped their laptops back to Acer to have the keyboards replaced, they broke again and again and again and again. Just basically a useless laptop. Until I got my Logitech K380 wireless keyboard. I need this keyboard to work so I can use the laptop. It's a pain to use the Touch Keyboard feature. Same thing goes for the mouse. I don't use Touch Mouse and I don't want to plug in another mouse. I was using one mouse for two laptops. That was the whole point of me buying this mouse in the first place. I know that if I was Microsoft Windows and I glared at you and told you that your program destroys computers, you will probably rush to ask for forgiveness and beg to not be punished. But since I'm just a regular person, you don't care that I am disabled with no money. You don't care that my laptop is destroyed because of you. You are just going to say "it's on you" and say that you warned me that problems could exist and blah blah. But you know, these problems didn't go away even after reverting the driver update changes AND restoring Windows to four days ago. I should have known better to trust your program. I can only find at most 2-3 of these drivers on the Intel website using the Intel Support Driver tool, but CCleaner insisted that I had 21-25 out-of-date drivers and gave me my current version numbers and the new version numbers, so I thought that just maybe your program was "better" at detecting out-of-date drivers. I've already wasted 12 or more hours of my life trying to fix this. Oh, yeah I did try the Bluetooth troubleshoot in case you are wondering. I've tried just about everything. No, I don't want your CCleaner admin or anyone else to reach out to me because you aren't going to replace my computer. In fact, your mods and admins will probably just try to delete this message and ban me. Or mouth off to me and lecture me on rules this and rules that. That's the kind of people you are. If anyone is reading this, do not, I repeat DO NOT use the Driver Updater. It didn't create any problems that I am aware of on my newer laptop, but it's a risky gamble. And it's not worth taking the risk.

Do you think that is a good idea to monitors the Registry changes made by the device drivers when they are installed the first time and then creates a standard RegEdit registration file (.reg) that contains all the Registry changes ? We could use the generated .reg file to import these changes with RegEdit and restore them to a new Windows installation.
