CONFLICT

Every story has a conflict - a struggle between two opposing forces. The conflict may be between two people or it may be between a person and some other force, regardless, every story revolves around conflict and it's important for you to understand the various kinds of conflict.

  • Internal Conflict is a struggle that occurs within the main character. This struggle happens within the character's own mind.
  • External Conflict is a struggle that the main character has with another character, with society, or with a natural force.
In this discussion post you need to respond to the following:
  1. What is the Conflict?
  2. Is the conflict Internal or External? How do you know?
  3. Why does the conflict occur?
  4. What are some ways this conflict could be resolved? (give more than one example)
If you are struggling to collect your thoughts try these strategies: 1) reread parts of the story. 2) Organize the story into the beginning, middle and end, the conflict typically happens somewhere in the beginning or early middle, 3) Use the Conflict Story Map to help you. You may post a copy of your story map to respond to the posting questions above.

When you respond to another students posing, you could elaborate on someone's response, you could ask questions for clarification, or you could explain what you saw differently or what surprised you about that person's response. Remember to keep it positive!!

The conflict in Fish Cheeks is Amy is embarrassed by herself and her
parents for not knowing American manners. It is both internal and
external conflict, for she is embarrassed at her relatives for not
having manners. SHe is also ashamed at herself for being different.
This conflict could be resolved by her being proud of being different,
or her trying to teach her parents American customs.

The conflict of the story is that her parents don't have American manners. She is embarrassed that her family is not using proper American manners. The conflict is person vs. person and is external. That is what the conflict in fish cheeks is.

The conflict is that Amy wants to be american. The conflict is
internal because she is trying to change her own self from chinese to
american. the conflict occurs because she likes an american boy named
Robert. Some ways the conflict could have been resolved were her
parents not letting her learn her lesson on her own. Also she could
have gone to like a chinese boy.

In the story Fish Cheeks I think the conflict of the story is Amy
wanting to be a regular American girl so Robert will maybe like
her. Also the conflict is that Amy is embarrassed of the traditions her
and her family does.

I think the conflic of this story is a internal conflict that takes
place within Amy. Amy is struggeling with weather she is ashamed of
who she is and is going to try and change or if she should stand up
and embrace who she is .

The conflict in the story is that Amy is emmbarased by her culture and her family. This conflict is internal and external because she is emabarrassed by her familys culture and how the do things. She is also embarassed by herself because she doent fit in and is different from the american kids. She could resolve this conflict by just being her self and being proud and confident in her true personality. Also not to be embarassed by your culture.

The conflict for fish cheeks is person vs. self because Amy is
struggling with embarrassment over her own heritage and it focuses on
her inner turmoil.
