Great video IIana, and extremely impressive results. Was all that after one 3 weeks of training? I particularly like when you fish (what's his name?) pushed the really big soccer ball.

I'll looking forward to seeing what else you can teach him. Fetch has always been my favorite. Please keep us updated!

I was able to teach him so quickly because I used operant conditioning and a marker. It speeds up the learning significantly.
Here's my post explaining how I did it

If you guys want tips on how to get quicker results I'd be happy to share what I did.

Ilana,

Thanks for sharing your training tips. Its amazing to see how well operant conditioning with the flashing light is working for you and Erasmus!  Please keep us posted. Am anxious to see how far you can go with him. Slalom was one of the hardest tricks for Comet to learn, because it involved chaining so many swerves together. Any luck on slalom with Erasmus yet?

Nice work, Ilana! During the past six years, I have used operant conditioning with pen light "clickers" to train over a dozen fish. In this way, my fish have learned all the Fish School behaviors. They have also been taught several dance moves and techniques for playing musical instruments. As a graduate of Bob Bailey's operant conditioning camps, I am always delighted to see this method of positive reinforcement being applied to non-canine/feline pets and zoo animals. It's absolutely the best way to train! I look forward to following your progress with Erasmus.
