Look at China today in this 21st century. She is the greatest industrial power in the world.
Reasons :
Competition driven Capitalists from Capitalist USA have invested heavily in China getting cheaper, better products.
Ditto with the Capitalists from the Social Democracies of Europe who're tired of their "free loading socialist" workers, that are the world champions at complaining & not working ( European economies are most uncompetitive).
Instead of rushing over to the Phils. for our world reknowned hospitality, capitalists around the world have preferred China because our " corruption " is worthy of the world championship.
Prediction ?
Capitalists from China will soon need to be more competitive & start taking their factories to dirt poor Africa ( or whomever solves their corruption problems first - Philippines are you listening ? )

Listen to Lin Yutang, the author of some 35 books. In his Importance of Living, simply wrote: “For the Chinese the end of life lies not in life after death, for the idea that we live in order to die, as taught by Christianity, is incomprehensible; nor in Nirvana, for that is too metaphysical; nor in the satisfaction of accomplishment, for that is too vainglorious; nor yet in progress for progress’s sake, for that is meaningless. The true end, the Chinese have decided in a singular clear manner, lies in the enjoyment of a simple life, especially the family life, and in harmonious social relationships . . . There is no doubt that the Chinese are in love with life, in love with this earth, and will not forsake it for an invisible heaven. They are in love with life, which is sad, and yet so beautiful, and in which moments of happiness are precious because they are so transient.”
Well, let us now look at ourselves as Filipinos and as a nation of faithful believers in the teachings of Christianity since 400 years ago. We are today only famous as the Sick Man of Asia. We Filipinos are in love not with our country, but in love only with divinity up there while we also love even more corruption as a way of life down here. In fact, we love corruption not because it is transient, but precisely because it is omniscient.
In our schools, colleges, and universities, we are still educated to believe that there is a better life to come but only after we are dead! And we Filipinos, faithfully, still believe such a holy biblical baloney. Poch Suzara |
As long as those people remain squashed as they are, those factories are not going anywhere. There was a time when a Belarus tractor was an oddity here in US. Then they were common. They are become oddity again because the Ukrainian factories are not competitive enough. Communism was all that kept Capitalism in check. Response: Yeah what happens when there is a call to war and nobody comes? What happens when Canada and Sweden lets them all in? What happens when church bells ring and the pews remain empty? What happens when no one comes to Walmart? What happens when hospitals and doctors say to one another: “the hell with insurance and profits and big pharma. Let’s make people well”. This will all come to pass.
Because these are causes deeply loved by the left. And history is a chronicle of victory, after victory by the left over the right. Every right human beings have today are rights fought for and won by the left. Without a single exception. Every human right we hold and now take for granted was won by the left. The right has always been doomed to fail.

Lionel,
Not being a prophet I cannot lay claim to any prophecy. I can only say that history is a chronicle of defeat after defeat of rightwing ideology. Society has always moved inexorably leftwards, shedding ideologies of the right one by one. Once lost, never to return.
You threw in too many ideas to counter this simple one in an effort to cloud a clear view of something that is so true and so natural. That idea is simple. Slowly but surely the powerful will shed their power to the poor and powerless if only by dint of their greater numbers and the intellectual superiority of their positions. For example, universal free education for every child is a far superior concept to education only for children of those who can afford it. This latter concept had to lose out. Universal healthcare is a superior concept to good healthcare only for those who can afford it. The latter concept also had to lose out.
Every social right humanity has today was fought for by the “left” against forces from the “right”. The “right” has lost every fight. Think about it. Every one. Without exception.
I liken it to tectonic movement between two plates. One plate is moving leftward versus another. There are periods of stability when there appears to be nothing happening. But something is happening miles down as the leftward-moving plate continues to press its leftward movement and is held in check as the forces are locked. Pressure builds and eventually snaps the rocks underground with a leftward jolt that moves the plate two feet in one huge tectonic movement we call an earthquake.
You guys from the right are angered by this idea that you know to be true. You are in the wrong side of history. Women’s rights will only get deeper and better. Civil rights will only get deeper and better. Human rights will only get deeper and better. Voting rights will only get deeper and better. You cannot stop it anymore than you can stop the earth from moving when the time to move comes.

A society of freemen and women is better than one that is half slave and half free.
A society where everyone has the right to vote is better than one where only the white or only men can vote.
A society that takes care of providing their children clean air and clean water is better than one that provides industry the right to dirty our air and water.
A society where everyone has the same opportunity regardless of the color of their skin is better than one that will provide fewer opportunities to those of a different color.
A society that will not march to war unless attacked is much better than a society that will march to war after war after war on the pretext that they are preventing any possibility, no matter how remote, of being attacked.
A society based on free expression is better than one that throttles it.
A society ruled by normal laymen is better than one ruled by abnormal priests.
A society ruled by its citizens is better than a society ruled by a king or a pope.
Every one of these “better societies” got better because the left fought for the “better part” against the right who fought for the worst.
