Hi All,
I hope you are enjoying a slower summer pace. And managing the extremes of weather as well as possible.

I'm writing to invite you all to participate in the "Pop Up " choir for Sunday July 30. I've advertised it in the FP WEekly, but realize not everyone gets to all of those messages. This will be a fun, on-time commitment choir. We'll meet at 8:45 (on the patio if it's nice weather, otherwise in the Emerson Room) for snacks, then learn two songs to sing in the service: "I'm gonna Lift My Sister Up" and "I Need you to Survive." Both are learnable in a very short time, with repeating words. Rev. Althea Smith, our summer minister, especailly requested the second one.She will be preaching that day. I hope to get an intergenerational group together to do this. Hymns are also familiar: Woyaya and We Are A Gentle Angry People. You are welcome to invite family members to join you! Or bring the whole family! Dress is "come as you are."

Here are links to the two songs we're singing, just to give you an idea. Some of you may have sung these before.

If you're in town on the 30th, I hope you'll come and sing. Let me know if you're planning/considering coming - or just show up! Thought it's nice for me to get a sense of who might be coming.
Thanks. Hope to see you on the 30th.
Beth

Hi All,

Here's a reminder of two fun singing opportunities at First Parish this weekend:

Rise Up Singing: Friday night, July 28 at 7:30 pm. - on the patio if nice weather, otherwise in the Parish Hall

This is our monthly song circle using the many lyrics in Rise Up Singing and Rise Again. It's open to singers and instrumentalists of all ages and you are welcome to bring guests! Very informal and inclusive.
It's a good idea to bring bug spray if we are outside. After sunset, the mosquitos tend to come out.

Midsummer Pop-Up Choir - Sunday, July 30. 8:45 social time/9:00 rehearsal/10am service.

This will be a fun, on-time commitment choir for all ages. Rev. Althea Smith, our summer minister, especially requested the second one.She will be preaching that day. I hope to get an intergenerational group together to do this. Hymns are also familiar: Woyaya and We Are A Gentle Angry People. Bring the whole family! And houseguests! Dress is "come as you are." Again, very informal and inclusive.

Here are links to the two songs we're singing on Sunday, just to give you an idea. Some of you may have sung these before.
HOpe to see you at one or both of these gatherings!

Dear Singers,

This is just a quick note to express my gratitude to the 17 singers who came on Sunday to sing in our very first mid-summer "Pop-up Choir." It was great to have folks from at least three different FP singing groups and a few new people as well. And you sounded lovely. Spirited and soulful.
We are planning to offer more of these "pop-up" choir opportunities during the church year, so those of you you weren't able to join in this time, will have another chance. And hopefully we'll interest some new singers in joining us as well.

Enjoy August! If I don't see you in church, I"ll see you in September.

With Gratitude,
