hi Worship Team and Alan (Alan: can you forward this to Deacons?)

Should you ever find yourself in the position of inviting the offering, here is some boilerplate you can use up front to *succinctly* explain what, why and how we do offering.

Any questions?

Intro to Offering Boilerplate:

Our Christian faith compels us to generosity as a spiritual practice. We give generously not just because there is great need, but also because being generous makes us more joyful. It’s how God made us, and it’s “what’s in it for us.” (we may choose to leave out that italicized bit most times)

Because the needs of our church community are largely covered by pledged gifts from committed members+others, this morning’s offering of cash will be set aside for…[name and describe agency or recipient]. ...if you want to give more than the cash in your wallet will allow for, you may write a check to FCCB with _____ in the memo line, or use the QR code printed in the order of worship to make a credit card donation. (use this when we get QR code or another method for taking cc donations up and running)

Hi Molly,
Thanks for the new language. I wonder if that first sentence in the second paragraph might be expanded a bit to make it clear that it is an “every Sunday” practice and not just “this Sunday”. Maybe

…committed members and other, each Sunday’s cash offering goes to an agency doing justice work in the world. This Sunday, that organization is “fill in the blank.”

Best,
Phil
