weekly recap: learning styles and adjectives

Dear Street Greek students,

 

Last Tuesday, we reviewed our case ending paradigm, discussed different learning styles, and introduced ch. 9.

 

We noticed that some of our students are hitting a wall and having a hard time being  motivated to memorize essential paradigms like the case ending chart. I took a little time to discuss different learning styles, and how it is different to learn what works best for you. Here are some suggestions on how to learn the case ending paradigm:

 

Visual Learners: look at the chart as a whole; study and make associations between each row; use flash cards

Auditory Learners: read the chart out loud; make a recording of yourself; use the enclosed CD in your Grammar book

Kinesthetic Learners: write out the chart repeatedly; make a flash card for each case ending; then make your own “chart” by spreading them out and assembling them out on a table

 

For most of us, probably a combination of these styles is most effective. But don’t forget, it just takes time and discipline! There is no magic approach to learning Greek or any other language. All of you are sharp and more than able to learn this language. Keep up the good work and don’t grow discouraged!

 

We also read through ch. 9 together and learned the difference between attributive, substantive, and predicate adjectives.

 

Homework for next week: please review ch. 9 and all vocab up to present. Do Exercise 9 Parsing 1-4, Warm-ups 1-2, and Translation 1-2.
