I have done it the same way and therefore I can confirm that this works. I have faced this issue in Windows 7, 8 and now in Windows 10. It is good to know that others are facing this issue too. Microsoft should be made aware of the issue. Ultrabooks are no longer shipped with optical drives, so an external optical drive is a necessary addition. There will always be a need for optical drives, for example to enjoy and store music in the compact disc format.
Awesome thank you wery much! I have tons of software in my windows and after update to latest creator update of windows 10 x64 exactly this problem appeared with my asus bluray drive. I tried several thigs and i am familiar with widnows device manager quite well. But I have not noticed that the drive is actually named as a intio usb device. That I missed. I wanted to watch movie with my GF and instead I started to backup things to finally reinstall my windows. But actually everything works now. So my windows is not bad at all. Only the response coud be better if reainstalled ?
Once you have deleted the Initio driver as per step 6, you simply need to unplug/replug the drive and it will work instantly (no weird lamen steps that sound more like superstition then technical advice ? )
Thank you! What a lifesaver. We have several Asus Blu-ray external drives in our office that suddenly stopped working. Same as with everyone else, this happened after a Win10 update. I have spent hours researching, nothing worked until this solution!
The reason why I like MakeMKV the most for bluray ripping is it creates an MKV copy of the disc to the harddrive with all subtitles included on the right-click menu, just like the blueray has when it plays live in the player on your TV or X-box/ Playstation 4.
Update! This tip works even for later versions of Windows 10! I have not found it to be a problem yet on My Windows 11 machine. I last used my Asus Bluray/DVD drive today about 1 hour ago and running stalbe on Windows 11 64-bit. Have a pleasant summer.
When I connect my ASUS SBC-06D2X-U Blu-ray drive to the ThinkPad, the drive does not show in Windows Explorer or Device Manager like I would expect. Windows beeps to acknowledge that I plugged in the drive; and the drive gets power: the lights on the drive's tray flash green initially, and I can open the drive by pressing its eject button; but there is no sign of the drive in Windows.
I checked whether ASUS provides a Windows 8.1 driver for the drive, but it seems like Windows 8.1's generic PnP and driver is all that it requires like I would expect. I also ran the Windows 8.1 troubleshooter, but it found no related problems. And I have searched online for possible causes but not found anything helpful.
I had the same issue with Windows 10. The ASUS drive worked fine, then Windows did an update and wouldnt find it. It would beep when plugged in so Windows knew something was there. Uninstalling the "Initio" device and checking the "remove driver" box did it. Right click in device manager and scan for new hardware and it correctly identified it.
There were no dvd drive devices appearing in the Device Manager, but your mention of "Initio" pointed me right direction. There was a non-descript entry for "Initio" that I had to this point ignored. I uninstalled it and scanned for hardware and the drive popped up immediately! Many thanks!
To my surprise, I was subsequently presented with an "Initio"-related driver-installation dialog: I clicked OK (before I considered taking a screenshot unfortunately), and Windows 8.1 immediately recognized the drive. Device Manager revealed the following driver details afterward:
To the extent I indulged my need to understand more, though, I Bing'd "Windows 8.1 Initio" and found a thread in the Microsoft Community forums speaking to this very issue with this very drive that blamed an "Initio" Windows update; and while the person who asked the question there encountered this issue with Windows 8.1 like me, apparently others have encountered it with Windows 7 too FWIW.
This drive that plugs into USB does not appear in Device manager but as a separateline item Initio Combo Device Class Initio Default Controlleralso, there is no entry in the "USB Bus controllers"to correct that:Desactivate and desinstall the "initionDefault Controller" and the drivers.Unplug the DVD from the USB port - then power off the PCPlug the DVD - and restart the PC. It should be OK now.In the device manager:there is now an entry for Mass storage controller in the "USB bus controller" list, and a new device "DVD/CD-ROM readers"

Blu-ray/HD-DVD SBW-06D2X-U is prone to system errors related to corrupt or outdated device drivers. The good news is that the CD-DVD Drive system driver can always be modified to solve the laptop dilemma.
It can seem impossible to find the right Blu-ray/HD-DVD SBW-06D2X-U driver directly on the ASUS's or related manufacturer's website for your CD-DVD Drive. Although you might have plenty of experience in handling Blu-ray/HD-DVD SBW-06D2X-U drivers, there still is a lot of time involved in this update process. Driver versions that are incorrect will cause more complications with your PC's performance, sometimes causing more damage.
Because of the time and complexity involved in updating drivers, we highly recommend using a driver update software. These updating applications allows you to maintain the latest version of the drivers you need and generates a backup of your current drivers before installing a new ones. Back-up files provide you with the ability to roll-back any driver to an earlier version if something interrupts or corrupts the process.
Do nada! Tava quietinho.
Retirei o cooler, o processador, tudo fisicamente perfeito. 0 bytes. No possuo nenhuma "unidade" extra.
Prezado Leonardo,
Boa tarde
