Hey, Everyone! This is the “imprecation” that my colleague in South Africa wrote for us this morning. We have been exploring how to use the enemy’s weapon of shame against him. So, we call this an imprecation, or a curse back to the enemy:
*For Phnom Penh at Neak Ta* by Dan Erickson, Novo missionary in Pretoria
Oh city, you have embraced fleshless
enemies, and they, in their consuming jealousy,
cause you to pierce your flesh.
Those who are voiceless cause screams,
those who have no arms or legs
pin themselves to your legs, your arms,
those who have no blood lead you to spill yours.
Remember you enemies of God, you ravenous demons,
There is one who was pierced,
Who cried out,
whose hands were spread and nailed.
You saw it happen yourselves,
you saw him rise to your dismay and terror.
His blood is the true blessing you counterfeit today.
His name is Jesus, and His blood is in our veins.
We bless you, city, in His name without spilling blood.
Let us touch you and you will feel
warmth without burning, healing instead of wounding.
Listen! We sing instead of shrieking
Watch us walk among you unafraid, our wills our own
but surrendered in love to our Savior, Jesus!
Your enemies will leave you empty, burnt,
throatsore, Phnom Penh. Your enemies can claim
only one day in a year,
and even that day belongs to the only God
who bled for you.
Your enemy despised and abandoned Him.
Their hunger is their own doing.
You do not need to feed them.
They are foreigners in your midst,
invaders from another place, their names
written in script you cannot read.
Phnom Penh, the hands that filled your rivers
that formed your hill, those fingers
long to wipe the tears from your eyes,
and heal your tongues.
His name is Jesus.
It was so fun to go to war with you all today!!
