ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS EXTENDED!

Nature Conservation Council's Bushfire Conference 2023

Dates: Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th May, with a Sydney Field Day on Friday 26th.

Location: NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre, Sydney

The deadline for abstract submission has been extended. This is a final call for abstract submissions for presentations, speed talks and posters, for the Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC)'s 13th biennial Bushfire Conference: Managing Bushfire Together: Applying science, skills and stories

Please ensure your abstract is submitted by 11.55pm on Monday 13th of March 2023 at the latest.

This year's presenters will be able to present in-person via 3 possible formats: oral presentations (12 mins, with 3 mins for questions), speed talks (4 mins, with 1 min for questions and changeover) and posters at our dedicated poster session on the 24th (which will facilitate discussion with conference delegates).

With 13 previous biennial bushfire conferences to learn from, this year's conference is a unique opportunity to contribute to discussions on best fire management practices to help protect, enhance and restore biodiversity, ecosystems and communities.

Each presentation and corresponding abstract should address the key theme and at least one of the three sub-themes below. For more information please refer to the How to Submit an Abstract document or visit our website

Themes

All presentations and posters are to incorporate the key conference theme of Managing Bushfire Together with a focus on one of the three sub-themes outlined below. Heat, oxygen and fuel - the fire triangle - describes the components that are needed for fire to occur. Our sequential sub-themes, based off the fire triangle, will assist us in describing the challenges, lessons and potential solutions to managing fire together.

Sub-themes

1.     Heat: Climate Change and Changing Systems

2.     Oxygen: Recovery, Resilience and Innovation

3.     Fuel: Collaborative Communities

Who is able to submit an abstract? Fire ecologists and practitioners, researchers, fire agencies, Traditional Owners and First Nations people, land managers, environmental and restoration consultants and any organisations/ agencies/ communities/ individuals investigating and using fire to support the environment and communities.

To submit an abstract: Please read the How to Submit an Abstract document, complete an Abstract Submission Form and email to NCCBushfir...@nature.org.au by 11.55pm on 13th March 2023.

Keep an eye on your inbox - tickets will be made available for sale to the public in the coming weeks.
