Using fire rift

Lets say i have a site and is run by fire rift. but in a separate
folder have other pages or sites where i test them without the CMS
how can i do this.
because right now, according to my understanding from what im doing
the rewrite is taking the link and just saying there is nothing there
when there really is

exe:
mydomain.com/subfolder/main.html
this just takes me to the 404 error

ALSO
if i already have a site how do i run it through the engine so that it
can CMS that instead of starting from blank or chopping up the
template
along with that
how do i add pages
im sure i have to add it to the htaccess for the rewrite but when i
try to use a page snips they don't work (eg: fr_item6 works on index
but not a new page i make).

If this information is available somewhere that i may have over looked
or maybe a handbook to lean more about this CMS or how CMS's work
please let me know
